Background

Lilly, an almost 7 year young Cockapoo, became a Tripawd hero on Friday, February 21, 2020.  This was her 3rd surgery to remove mast cell tumors. First tumor discovered on November 5, 2017 on the right front leg.
Removed tumor but margins were not clean. Biopsy confirmed it was a low grade mast cell. She went on Palladia for a series of months. She was good until November 2019. Mast cell tumors came back on same leg and one on neck. Completely removed one on neck but could not get clean margin on the leg.
She started chlorambucil. A month later, a massive tumor grew back right where the incision was. There was no way to save the leg. We did tests… cancer was also in her lymph nodes. They were taken out as well. However, cancer was not found in other areas of the body, spleen, stomach etc. The decision was made. Surgery is scheduled for Friday, February 21, 2020.

  2. Hello and welcome.
My Pug Maggie also had multiple MCTs, one prior to her amp, and several after. Mag lost her left rear leg to a MCT in her knee. Despite a poor prognosis (6 to 9 months) she lived almost 4 years and did not pass from mast cell cancer. You can read about her amp and treatment here: https://maggiesjourney.tripawds.com/maggies-story/maggies-amp-and-chemo-treatment-for-mast-cell-cancer/.
I did read your newer posts- sounds like Lily is healing well.

    1. Thank you for sharing your story. It brings me hope. If MCTs come back, I agree not to put her through anymore aggressive treatment. This is a one shot deal.
